One of 黒澤明 (Akira Kurosawa)'s many awesome films.
It starts with the moral dilemma of a man extorted to save the life his chauffeur's child at the expense of everything he owns, and moves on to the detective work of the police to try to catch the criminal. The review of the guy on IMDb is spot on... 黒澤 is a master of audience emotions and distances. In this film, you see the story from an almost morally neutral standpoint and follow the story in a detatched manner, but through the detailed, organised, and precise steps of the detectives. Worth watching!!!
i wavered between ranking this as I and I/A. It's full of extremely fast talking!! And, because it's old, some different constructions & sentence endings are used, and people slur different things than they seem to now. On the other hand, i think you do hear old men speaking like this sometimes still, the words they are using aren't uncommon generally, and there's still plenty of things you'll get. With this in mind, i'm going to rank it I/A, because i couldn't keep up with their speaking speed, and there's no Japanese subtitles.
Enjoy!!!
